WANA Over 120 notables and elders of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe in South Waziristan have renewed their pledge to continue with the peace deal signed with the government in 2007.
Influential militant leader Maulvi Nazir, who had recently joined hands with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, endorsed the decision of the jirga.
According to sources, several other Taliban 'commanders' also attended the jirga held in Wana.
The jirga decided that the tribe would not provide shelter to foreigners and would protect government installations.
It urged the government to set up a tribal region for Ahmadzai Wazirs separate from the Mehsud tribe.
The jirga called for construction of a road in Gomal and opening the route for people of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe.
Explosion
An explosion rocked Wana bazaar, but did not cause any casualty. The explosion was heard near the Wana Scouts Camp.
Militants also attacked a scouts' fort in the Jandola Frontier Region on Wednesday night.
