MIANWALI, Oct 1 Wapda engineers restored power supply to the city on Thursday afternoon after a 24-hour long breakdown.
On Wednesday at 350pm, a fire broke out suddenly at the 132KV Mianwali grid station which engulfed the switch room. Fire brigades of PAF Base and TMA controlled the blaze after hectic efforts.
The fire reduced to ashes seven circuit breakers out of a total of 17. The remaining were partially damaged.
A special engineers' team of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) reached late on Wednesday and started repair work. Meanwhile, an inquiry team from Islamabad also turned up to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Talking to this correspondent, executive engineer Khwaja Ghulam Yasin said the engineers took up the job on a war footing and succeeded to restore the supply to the city by afternoon. “We will be able to restore supply to surrounding areas by midnight,” he said.
Mr Yasin said seven feeders out of 17 were destroyed due to loss of circuit breakers.
The power breakdown resulted in shortage of drinking water. Children at educational institutions had to face a great deal of inconvenience as well.
