KARACHI, Oct 2 Girls outclassed boys in the intermediate commerce group exams for regular and private candidates by clinching top six positions including the one shared with a boy.

The commerce group results of the higher secondary certificate part-II annual examinations-2009 declared on Friday by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi showed that overall pass percentage of all regular candidates was 48.42 and that of private candidates was 37.43. Among regular candidates, the overall pass percentage of girls remained 59.03, which was 17 per cent higher than that of boys.

All top three positions in the exams were bagged by students of private colleges.

Hira Alavi (Roll No 796270), daughter of Nadeem Alavi, a student of DA Degree College for Women, topped the examination by securing 912 (82.91 per cent) out of 1100 marks. Sania Aftab Bhuvad (Roll No 795626), d/o Aftab Saeed Bhuvad, a student of Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences, got the second position with 907 (82.45pc) marks. The third position was, however, shared by Mohammad Hunain (Roll No 784926), a student of College of Emerging Technologies, and Saniya Siddiqui (Roll No 795588), Commecs Institute of Business and Emerging Sciences, as they both received 898 (81.64pc) marks.

In all, 29,981 regular candidates (18,291 boys and 11,690 girls) appeared in the exams. Of them 14,517 candidates (7,616 boys and 6,901 girls) were declared successful.

Only 28 regular candidates (15 boys and 13 girls) secured A-1 grade, 1,029 candidates (441 boys and 588 girls) got A grade, 3,435 candidates (1,417 boys and 2,018 girls) obtained B grade, 5,669 candidates (2,878 boys and 2,791 girls) got C grade and 4,199 candidates (2,737 boys and 1,462 girls) secured D grade. Similarly, 29 girls and 128 boys were placed in E grade.

Private candidates

Amna Mazhar (Roll No 900103), daughter of Mazhar Ali Siddiqui, clinched the first position by securing 815 (74.09 per cent) out of 1100 marks. She said she appeared in both parts of the college exams simultaneously.

Anum Fatima (Roll No 881155), d/o Mohammad Muzammil Shah, got second position with 812 marks (73.82pc). The third position went to Sana Ali (Roll No 881652), d/o Ali Bahadur, who secured 801 marks (72.82pc).

In all, 12,598 candidates (10,185 boys and 2,413 girls) appeared in the exam. Of them, 4,715 candidates (3,945 boys and 770 girls) were declared successful.

No private candidate secured A-1 grade, while 14 candidates (eight boys and six girls) got A grade, 466 candidates (359 boys and 107 girls) received B grade, 1,932 candidates (1,584 boys and 348 girls) obtained C grade and 2,197 candidates (1,905 boys and 292 girls) got D grade. Ninty-eight candidates (83 boys and 15 girls) were placed in E grade.

Meanwhile, BIEK Chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai felicitated the position-holders, their parents and teachers at a reception held in their honour on Friday.
