Makhdooms of Hala are more famous as custodian of the religious order established by Hazarat Makhdoom Nooh and as politicians, but another aspect is not widely known that most of them are also poets and scholars of repute.

Makhdoom Muhammad Zaman Talibul Moula was no doubt a famous politician and a 17th century representative of Hazrat Makhdoom Nooh, but he was also a poet, musician and a scholar of high calibre.

His literary and scholarly contribution is spread over 28 books, including 16 poetry collections and 12 prose collections. In prose he wrote on topics such as music, classical eastern poetic genres such as Kafee, mysticism, biography and linguistics. As chairman of the Sindhi Adabi Board, he offered unparalleled services for the enrichment of Sindhi literature and cultural life.

At the time of partition, hundreds of Sindhi writers and poets migrated to India leaving a void in the
literary and cultural genre of Sindh. Makhdoom Sahib was the pioneer who at that time not only helped to
publish various Sindhi literary periodicals such as the weekly Pasban and the Shaair, but also formed various literary associations.

Up to his last, he arranged literary functions and provided a forum to not only novice poets and writers but also vocalists and artisans to refine their skills and hence enrich the cultural and spiritual life of Sindh and consequently Pakistan.
He was also co-founder of the Sarwari Islamic College, Hala and also played a vital role in the establishment of various educational institutions in Hala and Dadu.
