ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 An emerging young player Sara Mansoor created a stir in the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship defeating second seed Ushna Sohail in the semi-finals played at the PTF courts on Thursday.

Sara put up strong resistance against Ushna who clinched the first set 6-2.

However, Sara contained Ushna's move by playing some good down the line winners.

A confident looking Sara did not give any space to a troubled Ushna and made a good comeback in the second set winning it 6-1.

Sara continued with her winning streak by playing with consistency and clinched the decider in style winning it 6-4.

Meanwhile, Saba Aziz created another upset of the tournament stunning Sara Mahboob with a shocking defeat 2-1. Saba continued her brilliant performance during the event and won the contest after a battle of nerves beating the top national player 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6).

In the men's category top seed Aqeel Khan qualified for the quarter-final.

Aqeel walloped Usman Ijaz in his pre-quarter-final contest 6-1, 6-3.

Veteran player Hameed-ul-Haq was hammered by young Heera Ashiq after a tough contest 7-5, 7-5.

Asim Shafik, Jalil Khan and Yasir Khan also confirmed their seats among the quarter-finalists.

In the boys junior U-17, Adil Kohari from Karachi was defeated by his city mate Zohair Raza in a close fight.

Zohair won the first set 6-3, however was down by 6-7 in second set.

In the third set Adil fought well however, he was defeated by 7-6 in decider set.

Other players who reached the quarterfinal included Heera Ashiq, Jibran-ul-Haq, Sadan-ul-Haq and Ahmed Chowdhry.
