SWABI, Oct 18 Three persons, including a nurse and her mother, were killed and one was injured in two separate incidents here on Sunday.

Police said that unidentified persons shot dead Rafaqat, a nurse, and her mother at night when they were coming home. The attackers managed to escape.

Registering FIR against unidentified persons, Mukamil Khan, the maternal uncle of the nurse, said that they had no enmity with anyone.

In Yar Hussain, two groups exchanged fire over a land dispute. It was learnt that Shafiullah was killed and his brother sustained serious injuries in the clash.

The injured was taken to district headquarters hospital but doctors referred him to Peshawar. The relatives of the victims lodged an FIR with Yar Hussain police station against Taimur Khan and his brother Mansoor Khan.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology has allocated Rs8 million for the financial assistance of needy students. Officials at admission office said that deserving students would get the financial assistance.

“A candidate who qualifies entry test is not deprived of admission to GIK Institute for the reason of financial stringency as we provide financial assistance to deserving students in such cases,” said Jehangir Bashar, the rector of the Institute.

He said that financial assistance was being provided to needy students each year and they allocated 10 per cent of the tuition fee for the purpose.

JAMAAT GATHERING If parliament failed to reject the controversial Kerry-Lugar bill then its fate would be decided on roads and streets of the country, said Sirajul Haq, the central vice chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, here on Sunday.

Addressing the party workers in connection with preparations for October 23 referendum on Kerry-Lugar bill, he said that clauses of the bill and claims of rulers forced his party to hold a referendum on it.
