ISLAMABAD, July 26: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has said that peacetime training at all levels is essential as the country is faced with an adversary that has made no secret of its desire to harm the country in every possible manner.

Addressing senior military officials at the conclusion of 10- day wargames at the National Defence College, Gen Musharraf declared on Friday that enemy’s desire to harm Pakistan would be deterred by the strong capability of the armed forces.

According to the ISPR, the president reiterated the potential of the armed forces to not only defend every inch of the motherland but also strike a telling blow on anyone who dared to violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

He emphasized that Pakistan stood for peace, however, it would not be blackmailed or coerced by anyone. “Our desire for peace should not be misperceived as a sign of weakness.”

Gen Musharraf expressed satisfaction with the wargames held under “the current nuclear environment”. He stressed it was imperative that lessons learnt and conclusions drawn must be incorporated in the operational plans of the formations.
