DADU, July 29: The worst affect of the shortage of irrigation water has been on agriculture in Sindh as Punjab was not giving the complete share of water to Sindh.
The president, Awami Tehrik, Rasool Bux Palejo, said this while addressing an agriculture and water conference in Wahi Pandhi town, Johi Taluka, on Saturday night.
He said that the people of the three provinces — Sindh, the NWFP, and Balochistan — were opposing the construction of the greater Thal canal but the federal government had started work on the project.
He said that after completion of the Thal canal, the government plans to start the construction work on the Kalabagh Dam.
He said that with the completion of the greater Thal canal project, millions of acres of land in Sindh would become barren.
He said that various parts of Sindh province were already facing a drought-like situation and the inhabitants of different areas were seeking the water for drinking purpose.
