RIYADH, July 30: Saudi Prince Fahd bin Turki bin Saud al-Kabir has been found dead in his country’s searing desert, the official SPA news agency said on Tuesday, adding that the prince apparently died of thirst.

The report said the 25-year-old prince had been travelling in Rimah province, south of the town of al-Ammaniya.

Two other Saudi men were found dead near their car in the country’s northern Nofoud desert as a result of thirst and heat.

It quoted Qassim Province police chief Brigadier Abdulqader bin Talha as saying the two men died after losing their way in the vast desert.

The temperature has been hovering around 47 degrees Celsius in Riyadh and more in the desert throughout July.

Prince Fahd was the third member of the extensive Saudi royal family to die in a week.

Prince Sultan bin Faisal bin Turki al-Saud, 41, was killed in a road accident on July 23 as he was driving from Jeddah to Riyadh for the funeral of his cousin, Prince Ahmed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, 43, who had died the day before of a heart attack.

The two cousins were buried together.

King Fahd: King Fahd left a Geneva hospital on Monday after undergoing successful eye surgery, the Saudi royal court said in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

The statement said the king underwent cataract surgery on the right eye.

Fahd, who suffered a stroke in 1995, left Saudi Arabia for his sumptuous lakeside mansion at Collonge-Bellerive, near Geneva, on May 20—AFP
