ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and his family members narrowly escaped an accident when a police car was suddenly spotted parked in the way of the VIP motorcade here on Monday, police said.

As a result, over six vehicles, including five those in the motorcade of chief justice, collided with each other injuring five personnel of the Punjab police.

When the motorcade entered the capital from the toll plaza near Golra Interchange, it found an Islamabad Traffic Police vehicle parked horizontally in the middle of the road. The pilot vehicle of the motorcade avoided the collision which was followed by the drivers of the CJ's car and Islamabad police vehicle moving behind.

However, the vehicle travelling behind the three cars could not spot the police car and smashed into it. As a result, the other four vehicles of the motorcade crashed into it. In the meantime, the three vehicles continued moving towards the Judicial Colony.

Earlier, the chief justice was scheduled to arrive in the capital along with his family from Lahore by air at 630pm, a senior police official said, adding arrangement had also been made to receive the chief justice at the Benazir Bhutto airport.
