Chakwal: madaressahs among problems

Published December 3, 2009

THE district of Chakwal has numerous problems. The most dreadful of them is the ever-increasing number of madressahs that are operating like factories of terrorists.

A few days ago I had visited the nearest forest of the Dhakku village. I wast dumbfounded when I saw a madressah operating there.

Later I came to know that a man from the Odherwal village had donated his land for establishing that madressah.

I was further shocked when I came to know that a suspected student had been arrested in that madressah by the Chakwal police. Why don't we nip evil in the bud? Why doesn't the government abolish such madressahs? Is the subject of Islamiat not enough for us to learn about our religion?

The second major problem of the district is that it lacks a modern and well-equipped hospital. Whenever a person gets severely injured or suffers from any serious disease, he is sent to Rawalpindi as the District Headquarters Hospital doesn't have necessary facilities.

All local political leaders disappear as soon as elections are over. The district nazim and the tehsil nazim are unable to give a well-equipped hospital to the people of Chakwal.

Another problem of the district is the urgent need for a university. The district has a population of more than one million and it requires a university for its youth. As the Government College, Chakwal, is the largest college, it can easily be given the status of a university.

Moreover, the situation at the college is extremely depressing due to many posts lying vacant. For instance, the college's English Department requires at least 15 lecturers but it has only five.

The government should fill all vacant posts so that education could be imparted to all students without any hindrance.
