KARACHI Top seed Aqeel Khan became the first player to reach the men's singles semi-finals of the Sindh Open ranking tennis championship at the Defence Club on Wednesday.

Aqeel took little time to post 6-0, 6-3 victory over Vinod Das in the first quarter-final.

Later, he was joined by fourth seed Nomi Qamer who got a walkover against Mohammad Abdul Saeed as the latter was exhausted after playing his doubles pre quarter-final together with Mohammad Nasim.

Nine women have entered the ladies singles which is played on knockout pro-set.

Men's doubles pre quarter-finals

Jalil Khan and Basit Gabol bt Qamer Habib and Noorullah (Hyderabad) 6-3, 6-3; Saif Noor Soomar and Zaid Noor Soomar bt M. Abdul Saeed and Mohammed Nasim 6-2, 6-3; Aqeel Khan and Abdul Rehman bt Aoun Jafery and Daniyal Jafery 6-0, 6-1.


Quarter-final

Fahad Anwar and Vinod Das bt Brig (r) A. S. Nasir and Ali Nasir 6-0, 6-4.


Juniors U-17 quarter-finals

Nameer Shamsi bt Shehryar Ahmed 6-1, 6-2; Abdul Rehman walkover Hamza Patoudi; Uzair A. Qadir bt Saad Noor Soomar 6-0, 6-0.


Boys and girls U-15 second round

Maheen Dada bt Sarwan Memon 8-4.


Men's 55 plus doubles semi-final
