LAHORE The Pakistan People's Party has asked Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah to resign from his office for “violation of building laws in construction of his plaza” whereas the latter has sought constitution of an independent committee to identify violation, if any.

“Rana Sahib should now act on his own sermons which he and his other party ministers give to the NRO beneficiaries,” PPP Punjab Secretary-General Samiullah Khan said at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday.

The PPP leader said the law minister should not hold the office till the completion of an investigation into the case.

He said the law minister constructed a plaza in a residential area (Fane Road) and raised it to five storeys in violation of building laws.

Samiullah, who was flanked by Malik Usman, said “The chief minister should not form a committee of his choice to clear the Rana. Rather the legislators of the PPP, the PML-N and opposition should be engaged to investigate the matter.”

He said there was discrimination on part of the provincial government in demolition of plazas in Lahore.

Meanwhile, on the floor of the house, the law minister described it as a conspiracy against him by the 'land mafia' and urged the chief minister to form an independent committee. He said he would have no objection to its recommendations.

“I am ready to rectify the violation or pay penalty if it is recommended by the committee” he said.
