DHAKA, Feb 2 Penalty corner striker Wasif Siddiqui hit a brace as reigning champions Pakistan overcame the spirited Bangladesh 3-0 in the hockey competition of 11th South Asian Games at the Moulana Bhasani Stadium here on Tuesday.

Forward Abdul Qayyum gave Pakistan the lead in the 19th minute when he scored the goal with a reverse-flick while Wasif, who banged half a dozen goals against Nepal two days ago, converted two penalty-corners to seal the fate of the match.

Bangladesh remained unlucky due to their poor conversion in penalty-corners along with some fine goalkeeping from Imran Butt.

Pakistan enjoyed the upper hand in the first session despite Bangladesh's securing four penalty-corners.

Pakistan will now take on archrivals India in their next match on Wednesday.

Earlier, Sri Lanka bulldozed weak Nepal with a 15-1 win. Captain Abey Arathne pumped in six goals for the winners.—APP
