LARKANA, Aug 9: The Sindh High Court, circuit bench, Larkana, on Friday sent Ayaz Khero, the SHO of Nasirabad police station, to jail for illegally detaining a man.

The jail superintendent of the central prison confirmed over the phone the arrival of the SHO in the jail on Friday.

Shams Massan had filed a petition in the court alleging that the SHO, Nasirabad, had arrested Khan Mohammed Massan and kept him in illegal confinement.

The division bench consisting of Justice Zawar Hussain Jaffery and Mohammed Afzal Soomro appointed Abdul Qadeer Soomro as the raid commissioner with the orders to locate the detainee.

On Thursday, the raid commissioner found the detainee in the lock-up. He had been shown to have been arrested in a case.

The raid commissioner recorded the statements of the other people in the lock-up who confirmed that Khan Mohammed Massan had been there since the last four days.

On Friday, the SHO along with the detainee appeared before the court, where the detainee said he had been arrested about four days back by the SHO who told him that he was wanted in a case.

The court did not agree with the version of the SHO and sent him to jail for five days till the next date of hearing on Aug 15.

DEMO HELD: A large number of tillers, peasants, and small Khatidars held a protest demonstration in Warah town on Friday against the acute shortage of irrigation water.

They marched through the main streets of the town. After registering their complaints with the irrigation office they assembled at the Fazul Rahoo Chowk.

Addressing the protesters, Manzoor Chandio, Sartaj Chandio, and Dr Arbab Khuhawar accused the irrigation officials of not providing water to the Haris who were cultivating their land on Naseer Shakh, Nawab Shakh, Punna minor, Tunia minor, Hamid Shakh, Kanwar Shakh, Panhwaro Shakh, and Mirwah.

The citizens, while expressing solidarity with the growers, shut down their shops on Friday.
