FAISALABAD, Oct 8: Owing to US and its allies attack on Afghanistan, all the major markets of the city including yarn, cloth, grossery, grain and leading commercial centres presented a deserted look.
Shopkeepers were seen sitting idle and discussing about the situation after the US strike and its future outcome.
The cotton yarn market, biggest in Asia, also remained without buyers throughout the day sustaining huge financial losses to yarn dealers as well as cloth merchants.
A cotton dealer said that apart from other negative factors including financial crunch and wrong policies of the government, the present economic scenario has further bleaked the high hopes of yarn traders to come out from the crisis.
He said that the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan would further deepen the crisis of the textile sector especially yarn and cloth sector and there was likelihood of further closure of textile ancillary units.
The business activities in eight bazaars of the city and their internal markets were remained at standstill due to protest rallies and demonstrations taken out by various religious and organizations.
