DADU, Feb 16 Seeking confirmed jobs with an increased salary, Lady Health Workers (LHWs) boycotted anti-polio drive in the district here on Tuesday.
Their boycott badly hit the drive in the district. However, EDO health claimed that despite LHWs boycott, paramedics and doctors administrated polio drops to children in 52 UCs of the district.The lady health workers boycotted the anti-polio drive in Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Dadu and Johi talukas.
Scores of LHWs gathered in Khairpur Nathan Shah, took out a rally and staged a sit-in on the town bypass for three hours.
LHW Noor Bano said that government was delaying regularisation of their services. She said that lady health workers had played a vital in a accomplishment of different assignment of the heath department but were denied security of job. Later, Feroze Memon, provincial coordinator of National Programme of Family Welfare arrived there, held meeting with lady health workers, assured them that he would move the provincial and federal governments for acceptance of their demands.
Our Sukkur correspondent adds Eunuchs joined hands with the health department and visited different areas of Sukkur district to administer anti-polio drops to the children during the three day anti-polio campaign which kicked off on February 15.
LHWs are also taking active part in the campaign throughout upper Sindh, except Jacobabad district, where they boycotted the campaign.
Earlier, LHWs had threatened to boycott anti-polio campaign in protest against government's refusal to regularise their services but joined the campaign after an assurances extended to them by the concerned DCOs.
However, in Jacobabad district, they boycotted the campaign and staged a demonstration.— Correspondent
