MINGORA, Feb 18 As many as 300 suspected people were arrested by security forces in a crackdown launched after curfew was imposed in Mingora on Thursday.

Mingora remained under curfew from 1200 at midnight till 330pm on Thursday.

Educational institutes, government offices and bazaars in Mingora were closed, and entry and exit points of the city were blocked. Traffic was suspended and thousands of residents were confined to their houses.

Security personnel and policemen were deployed at chowks and other key places and installations. The forces arrested 250 suspected people from the Khonagul locality of Mingora and 50 more were arrested for violating curfew during search operation.

GHALANAI A child was injured when security forces fired at a suspected car near a security post on the Bajaur-Peshawar road in the Mohmand Agency on Thursday.

Police later arrested four occupants of the car, who are said to be aides of a Bajaur-based militant commander.

Sources said personnel manning a security post on the road signalled a car to stop but the driver tried to speed up.

The personnel opened fire on the car, as result the child passing by the area was injured. The four car occupants were later arrested.Mohmand Rifles officials claimed that the arrested persons were close associates of militant commander Pervez and were on the way to Peshawar for sabotage activities.

Arms were also seized from the arrested persons, Ali Rehman, Rahat, Taweez Gul and Asad.

LAKKI MARWAT Police foiled a terrorist plot and seized an explosive-laden car on the Abakhel link road on Wednesday night.

Police launched a search operation in the area for two militants who abandoned the car and escaped after an exchange of fire.

DSP Lakki Liaqat Shah said a police party signalled the car near Dallokhel to stop, but the occupants started firing and fled away after police retaliated. Later, the accused abandoned their car, which was seized by police. The DSP said the car was full of explosives.
