KARACHI, Feb 18 Second seed Aurangzeb Mehmund fought gallantly to brush aside the challenge from top seed Waqas Mehboob in five gruelling games final and land his maiden boys' under-19 crown in the Rs 300,000 National Junior Squash championship at Rehana Nazar Squash Complex in Rashidabad, Tando Allahyar, on Thursday.

Promising Aurangzeb from Punjab recovered after conceding first and third games to turn the tables on seasoned opponent. He won the five games epic battle 7-11, 11-4, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9 in 56 minutes.

Top seed Nasir Iqbal lived up to his top billing when he ended the winning streak of qualifier Ali Bukhari 11-8, 11-5, 11-5 to claim boys' under-17 title.

Zoya Khalid reasserted her authority disposing off Roshna Mehboob 11-6, 11-6, 15-13 to annex the girls' under-19 title.

The girls' under-15 title went to Saadia Gul who got the better of Mehak Shakeel 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.

Teenagers Bilal Zakir, Zeeshan Khan and Ahsan Ayaz clinched the boys' under-15, under-13 and under-11 titles respectively.

Aurangzeb received a winning purse of Rs11,400 while Waqas fetched runner up prize of Rs7,800 besides the trophies. Aurangzeb was also awarded Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir award of excellence.

Zoya and Roshna got richer by Rs7,600 and Rs5,200 respectively. Zoya was presented a gold medal in memory of Air Marshal Zahid Anis.

The two awards were instituted by Air Cdre (retired) Shabbir Ahmed Khan, one of the founders of Rashid Memorial Welfare Organisation.

Final Zoya Khalid (ZTBL) bt Roshna Mehboob (ZTBL) 11-6, 11-6, 15-13.

Girls' under-15

Final Saadia Gul (PAF) bt Mehak Shakeel (Sindh) 11-9, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6.
