LARKANA, Aug 11: The Larkana District Council, in a unanimously adopted resolution here on Saturday, demanded of the Election Commission to restore old locations of polling stations in the district.
The council also demanded to establish more polling stations, if needed, to facilitate voters.
The resolution was tabled by Ejaz Leghari and supported by Amir Bakhsh Gaad, Shahid Hussain Bhutto, Athar Abbas Solangi, Mohammad Hayat Shaikh and Badar Abbasi.
Leghari said the relocation of polling stations in the constituency of the Pakistan People’s Party leader Benazir Bhutto spoke volumes of the “ill” intentions of the government.
He said polling stations of Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, Jummo Agham, Khanwah, Allah Bakhsh Hakiro, Bakhar Mahisar and several other areas had been shifted to other villages.
The council resolved to ask the Election Commission personnel to immediately put on display the final voters lists in each union council of the district.
Another resolution, moved by Amir Bakhsh Gaad, criticized the rise in education fees in Sindh and said the rise would lead to the students of poor families being deprived of the right to education.
He said due to the increase in fees, 586 students got admissions in HSC-I in Larkana district in the current session as against 4,074 admissions in the previous year.
Mohammed Ayub Ansari, Muhib Pirzado, Ismail Bughio, Abdul Qadir Sangi and others supported the resolution.
The council, unanimously approving the resolution, demanded of the government to withdraw the rise in the fees.
It also condemned the attack on a journalist, Ghulam Rasool Pathan, the Bureau Chief of a Sindhi daily, and called for action against the culprits.
Nazir Ahmad Bughio presided over the session.
ACCIDENT: A driver died and 14 passengers were injured in a road accident near here on Sunday night.
A Larkana-bound wagon, which was coming from Mehar, went out of control of its driver, in the outskirts of Larkana city in the jurisdiction of the Waled police station, after its tie-rod broke.
It dashed against a tree, resulting in the death of its driver, Roshan Ali Khaskheli, and injuries to 14 passengers.
The injured — identified as Shabbiran, 8, Nizamauddain, Ghulam Serwar, Ghulam Mohammed, Abdul Hamid, Mohammed Usman, Qurban Ali, Mohammed Haroon, Mohammed Hanif, Ghulam Nabi, Abdul Majeed, Bashiran, Hajiran, and Kazbano — were admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital here.
