QUETTA A bomb planted under a rickshaw exploded near a paramilitary checkpoint in Quetta, killing a pedestrian and wounding three others on Monday, senior police official Hamid Shakeel told AFP.

“A nearby Frontier Corp checkpost could have been the target,” he said.

Violence has spiked around Quetta in recent days.

On Sunday, a remote-controlled bomb rigged to a bicycle killed three people and wounded another 14 others while targeting a senior policeman who survived.

The previous day, police said gunmen shot dead seven people in Baluchistan, including three Shia Muslims killed in a drive-by shooting on the outskirts of Quetta.
