ISLAMABAD, March 21 The Multan administration had to change the route of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's motorcade on Sunday because of reports about threats of attacks.

According to sources, the route of the motorcade from the airport in Multan to the venues of Mr Gilani's main activities in the town was changed when local police and Multan administration received a number of threatening phone calls.

Mr Gilani pays visits to his hometown on alternate weekends.

The sources said when the prime minister's special plane landed at the Multan airport, authorities issued a high alert call and his airport activities were limited to a brief reception.

The motorcade took an alternate route to the venues of the inauguration of a labour colony built by the Workers Welfare Fund and Mr Gilani's meetings with lawyers and his party workers.
