Roads in Nawabshah shrinking

Published March 23, 2010

MS Faryal Talpur, MNA, has taken up the task of the beautification and widening of roads of Nawabshah with a special fund amounting to Rs250m.

I want to draw her attention to the unchecked encroachments on roadsides by shopkeepers. This s creating problems not only for pedestrians but also for motorists.

Shopkeepers at Masjid Road and Market Road Nos.1 and 2 have encroached upon footpaths and display their goods on pavements while vendors put up their stalls on roadsides.

Footpaths and roadsides in town are disappearing fast because municipal officials are in league with shopkeepers and vendors. Shopkeepers on Lal building road have displayed their goods on roads creating hurdles for vehicular traffic.

Vendors say they are paying Rs200 a day to shopkeepers to put their stalls in front of their shops. They say the taluka municipal administration takes no action against mighty traders who have raised permanent illegal structures in markets and alongside roads. The MNA is requested to look into the matter.
