Navy official ‘beaten up’

BAHAWALNAGAR, Aug 15: A Pakistan Navy officer was allegedly beaten up in Faqirwali village on Tuesday.

Commander Rashid Tanveer, Tahir Mahmood Ghulam Dastgir, Muhammad Husain and Sher Khan had gone to open the water course irrigating land belonging to Admiral Arshad Munir in an official jeep when they were allegedly attacked by villagers led by Ahmad Din and their weapons taken away from them.

It was further alleged that they were beaten up with sticks. Ahmad is said to have been granted a stay order by a court regarding an irrigation dispute that was vacated on July 30.

The police have registered a case against 36 people.

DROWNED: Shahzad Ahmad of Pirzada Colony, Minchanabad, drowned in Fordwah Canal while trying to retrieve a soccer ball. The body had not been found the filling of this report.

BURNT: Asma, 4, and Iram, 5, daughters of Muhammad Sabir Mughal of Zamindara Colony were badly burnt when they touched an iron pipe in contact with an 11,000-Volts line.

Mr Mughal said he had repeatedly requested the authorities concerned to shift the transmission line away from his house.

Doctors described the condition of both the children as critical.
