KARACHI, March 26 Fancied KESC opened their campaign when they thrashed Malir Club 62-33 to earn full points in the Ustad Rehman memorial basketball tournament at the Nishtar Park court on Friday.

The KESC enjoyed an upper hand right over their opponents from the word go to post authoritative victory.

Rashid Khan top scored with 12 points followed by Hammad Khan and Ali Chanzeb 11 apiece. Jawaid Khan and Talha Amjad contributed 10 and 8 respectively.

Ali Raza, captain of Malir, who managed to score 15, failed to muster enough support from teammates. Ali Zaidi and Tayyab scored seven and six respectively.

Meanwhile, the organisers have scratched Habib Bank from the contest after they expressed their inability to compete on a short notice, organising secretary, Mohammad Yaqoob, told Dawn.

According to draws, the bankers were due to play Arambagh Club in the first match on Friday.

Neighbourhood Club edged past Bounce Club 46-28 in the second match played on Thursday evening.

Hammad Khan led the team from the front contributing 15 points. Ali Ahmed and Raja Zahid scored eight points apiece. Talha Awan and Saifullah scored seven and five respectively for the losers.

Saturday's fixtures

KESC v Neighbourhood Club at 6.30pm; Arambagh Club v Gulshan Club at 7.30pm; Bounce Club v Malir Club at 8.30pm
