LAHORE, April 13 Pakistan badminton players Wajid Ali, Umer Zeeshan, Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri recorded victories in qualifying rounds of the Asian badminton championship at New Delhi on Tuesday.
According to information available here, Wajid advanced to the second round of qualifying by convincingly beating Burhanudin Mir of Afghanistan 21-6, 21-7.
Lanky Wajid exhibited aggressive serve game and solid defence to outshine his opponent in all departments of the game.
Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri of Pakistan easily beat Ajfan Rasheed and Sharafuding Naseem of Maldives 21-14, 21-5 in men's doubles.
The winning pair faced weak opposition in the opening part of the match but gradually tightened their grip with greater understanding and anticipation.
The pair of Wajid and Umer Zeeshan beat Hashita Chanake and Rajitha of Sri Lanka in a hard-fought three sets match 19-21, 21-16, 21-16.
However, Pakistani girls Sara Khan and Palwasha Bashir failed to follow the good performance of their men colleagues.
Sara lost to host Thulasi 9-21, 10-21 and Palwasha was beaten by Lekha Sherani of Sri Lanka 9-21, 12-21.—APP
