SWABI, Aug 18: The local transporters have claimed that the district government and the Tehsil Municipal Administration have agreed to their demands to abandon the construction of a toll tax plaza on Mardan-Swabi road and a bus terminal in the Shewa Adda.

They informed on Sunday that the talks to this effect were held on Saturday evening, where district Nazim Sher Zaman Sher and Tehsil Swabi Nazim Masood Jabbar and representatives of transporters’ unions were present.

The transporters’ representatives said that the people could not afford the levy of more taxes, which resulted into a sharp increase in the prices of all commodities. It would be very hard for the local people to pay toll tax and bus stand fee to the establishment, they added.

Sources said that the district government and TMA told the transporters that they would not be allowed to increase the fares and burden the commuters beyond their capacity.

The sources said that the construction of the toll tax plaza had been abandoned for the time being. It would now be constructed by the Mardan district government, they added.
