HYDERABAD, May 12 Lawyers observed black day throughout Sindh on Wednesday to mark the third anniversary of May 12 carnage.

They boycotted courts and wore black armbands.

In Hyderabad, lawyers urged the Supreme Court besides federal and provincial governments through a resolution to order an inquiry into May 12 incidents in Karachi when several political activists and lawyers were killed.

Hyderabad chapter of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) held a meeting in the bar room. HCBA president Allah Bachayo Soomro, general secretary Zahoor Baloch, former president HCBA Abdul Sattar Kazi and Ayaz Latif Palejo addressed the meeting.

They said that the Musharraf regime was responsible for the incident for it had disarmed police and given them batons.

They said that Pervez Musharraf, Arbab Ghulam Rahim and the MQM were hands in glove at that time.

Activists of the Awami Tahreek, Sindhiani Tahreek and Sindhi Shagird Tahreek taken out a rally from Hyder chowk to the press club in protest against the May 12 incident.

They raised slogans against terrorists and said that those who were involved in the murder of innocent people in Karachi on May 12 should be hanged.

Central general secretary of the Awami Tahreek Mohammad Khan Bhurgari, president Sindhiani Tahreek, Umrao Samoon and SST president Naveed Jarwar said that military dictator Musharraf had removed Chief Justice Mohammad Choudhry by force as he had refused to accept dictator's dictation.

They said, when the CJP came to Karachi on May 12, he was made a prisoner at the Karachi airport by terrorists. Activists of political parties who had gathered to welcome him were fired upon, killing more than 48 political activists, including a central leader of the Awami Tahreek, Mohammad Nawab Kanrani.

THATTA Sindh Minister for Culture Sassui Palijo has called upon the chief justice to take suo motu of the incidents of May 12, 2007, and provide justice to the bereaved families of dozens of the PPP activists and others who lost their lives on that day.

She was addressing a gathering organised by the Peoples Lawyer Forum and Thatta District Bar Association to pay tributes to the people killed on May 12, at Makli Gymkhana on Wednesday.

Ms Sassui claimed that Pervez Musharraf had planned the incidents of the 12th of May and used the MQM to block access of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry to lawyers and people.

Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi said that the 12th May incidents were not merely against the lawyers ,but against the entire civil society and the humanity.

KHAIRPUR Lawyers of Khairpur boycotted court proceedings and held a protest meeting at DBA office.

Speaking on the occasion, president of the DBA Shafqat Mahessar and former secretary Abdul Qayoom Shaikh condemned the May 12 carnage.

Lawyers in Faiz Ganj, Pir Jo Goth, Thari Mirwah and other sub-courts also boycotted court proceedings.

NAWABSHAH Members of the DBA boycotted court proceedings and no case was heard in any court throughout the district.

A general body meeting of the DBA was held.

Members said that dozens of innocent people lost their lives in the planned carnage on the arrival of the then deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Choudhry in Karachi on May 12.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro and Bhirya Road boycotted court proceedings and held protest meetings.

MIRPURKHAS Lawyer took out a procession on the premises of the court complex and held a protest meeting.

They boycotted court proceedings.

MITHI Lawyers boycotted courts and demanded appointment of a judicial commission to investigate the incident.

BADIN Lawyers remained away from the court proceedings and held a meeting at bar room.

They demanded that the Chief Justice should take a suo motu notice in the killing of innocent people on May 12.
