MITHI, May 13 A pregnant woman waiting outside Nadra office since last four days in the hope of getting her CNIC was gifted with a baby boy, with another to be following her few hours apart.
This situation has emerged because of the shortage of staff and facilities at Nadra offices in Mithi, Chhachhro, Diplo and Nagarparkar. Scores of men and women are forced to live under open sky on hopes of getting their CNICs.
Residents of various villages of taluka Mithi, Diplo and Chhachhro told reporters on Wednesday that they were living on the roads, outside the Nadra office, where there is no shade, water, toilet, hotel and other facilities and Nadra staffers, though could see people in distress, but were not ready hand them over, even the NIC forms.
A number of women of Jogi community, residents of village Hayat Rind, alleged that they had been waiting outside Nadra office for last four days, and one among them, Govri w/o Ratno Jogi, gave birth to a baby boy last night, on the road, whereas other Barju w/o Misri, Jogi is most likely to give birth to a baby within next few hours.
Reporters witnessed impoverished women and their shabbily-dressed children crying in hunger and thirst as their mothers were compelled to stay outside Nadra office in the hope that they would be called for the NIC forms.
Reporters witnessed passing out of two waiting women Chandu w/o Arjan Bhil, r/o village Bhatyan Ji Veri and Mst Nabyat Nohri.
They urged the authorities to take notice of alleged malfunctioning of Nadra offices and streamline their functioning.
Meanwhile, an official of Nadra office, on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the shortage of staff.
However, they were trying their utmost to dispose of maximum number of cases daily.
