QUETTA, May 18 A member of the National Assembly has alleged that the land mafia in collaboration with the staff of revenue department has got plots of land owned by local people in Gwadar transferred in the name of outsiders.

Mir Yaqoob Bizenjo, the MNA from Kech district, said in a statement on Tuesday the mafia was now selling the pieces of land to investors, adding that under a pre-planned conspiracy the lands of local people were being grabbed.

He said the price of land in Gwadar was going up because the government had planned to acquire land from growers for a new railway network being built in the city.

He called upon the government to frame a transparent policy for getting land from growers and warned against grabbing of land under the cover of official projects.

“Growers should be given their due compensation if the government acquires their lands for the proposed railway line,” he added. He demanded probe into occupation of lands by the land mafia, adding that he would raise the issue in the National Assembly.
