However, power supply to Quetta city and its adjoining areas was restored through an alternative arrangement after some time.
Quetta Electricity Supply Company (Qesco) sources said a technical fault in the 220KV Quetta-Sibi Transmission Line near Sibi had caused the breakdown. “Wapda engineers have traced the fault and making efforts to fix it and restore power supply to all affected areas in the minimum possible time,” a spokesman for Qesco told Dawn.
However, he ruled out the possibility of any act of subversion being the cause of the breakdown.
“We are facing a shortfall of 120MW to 130MW because of power supply suspension from Quetta-Sibi trans- mission line,” Qesco sources said.
They said that complete power supply was expected to be restored by Thursday afternoon.
It may be recalled that 22 districts of Balochistan had remained without electricity for more than 20 days last month because unknown people had destroyed 11 pylons between Nasirabad and Sibi.
Qesco restored power supply on May 18 after replacing the destroyed pylons.
