QUETTA Train traffic to and from the city was suspended for hours after a portion of the main railway track was blown up on Saturday morning.

Police sources said an explosive device had been placed under the track in the Sariab area.

Railway officials said 10 sleepers were badly damaged in the explosion.

Faisalabad-bound Chiltan Express was on its way when the blast took place. However, no one was injured.

The train service was restored in the afternoon after the damaged parts of the track had been replaced.

Meanwhile, a police official was shot dead in the Sariab road area.

Sources said Inspector Abdul Wahab Mengal of the investigation cell was going to his office when men on a motorcycle opened fire on him near a primary school.

The inspector received multiple injuries and was rushed to hospital, He was later pronounced dead.

It was the second attack on a police officer in the province in three days. Two days ago an SHO was gunned down in Mastung.
