ISLAMABAD, June 21 Chief of Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) Nawabzada Talal Akbar Bugti filed an application in the Supreme Court on Monday, seeking arrest of murderers of his father Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti who was killed during a military operation in 2006.
The application, submitted through Advocate Rafique Sanjrani, requests the apex court to issue a red warrant for former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharaff in order to bring him back to the country through Interpol. It also requests the court to direct police to arrest the people nominated in an FIR. Nawabzada Talal Bugti requested the apex court to take up the case to ensure that culprits were brought to justice.
He said that no person named in the FIR had yet been arrested. He said that the former military dictator had also been nominated in the FIRs registered in connection with the Lal Masjid military operation and assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto.
The wounds of the Baloch tribe, he said, could only be healed by bringing the killers of Nawab Bugti to justice.
Besides Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, those nominated in the FIR include former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former Balochistan governor Awais Ghani, former interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sharpao and former Balochistan minister Shoaib Nosherwani.
Later, addressing a press conference, Talal Bugti demanded immediate extradition of Gen Musharraf for trial in cases relating to murders of Nawab Akbar Bugti and Ms Benazir Bhutto, Lal Masjid military operation and other 'criminal' activities.
Talal Bugti said that the FIR had been registered on Oct 13, 2009, on the orders of the Balochistan High Court but no further steps were taken to bring culprits to justice.
He urged the government to take action for the arrest of Gen (retd) Musharraf.
He claimed that some hidden forces were trying to create misunderstanding among various segments of society, particularly between the people of Balochistan and Punjab.
