KARACHI Tennis players of yore across the country will give a glimpse of their hey-day when the Pakistan ITF Seniors Tennis Championship gets underway at the newly laid synthetic courts of Karachi Gymkhana from July 12.

The event, first of the two-leg, will also mark the commissioning of the Gymkhana courts which, according to experts, are not perfect and need repair.

The details of the event were announced by tournament director Sabih Wali in a press conference held at the Karachi Gymkhana on Friday. Khwaja Saeed Hai and Khalid Rehmani also spoke on the occasion.

The events that will take place include seniors 35 singles, 45 singles and doubles, 55 singles and doubles and ladies 35 singles.

Last date for submission of entries is July 9 while the draws will be taken out on July 11 at 6.30pm at the venue.

Wali, who is secretary tennis of the KG and winner of seniors 55 singles title in Dubai three months back, said entry fee of the event has been waived to encourage more participants.

The event has not attracted any entries from abroad for the second year running but, according to Rehmani, it will help local players earn points.

An Indian player Murthy featured in a similar event two years back.

Veteran Davis Cupper Hai informed that this is the second time two ITF seniors events are being held in a calendar year the last being in 2007.

He said the second seniors event will be held in the city from Oct 10 to 16.
