MITHI, Aug 4 Tharparkar's greenery, soon after rains, attracts people from all over the province and construction of metallic road, hotel, guest house, shopping centre and an entry gate have added charm to Gadhi, a sand dune in the west of Mithi town.

The place is now providing all possible recreational facilities not only to its residents but to tourists, also. People are seen strolling and enjoying the beauty, besides take pleasure from the spectacular view of ruins of a fort of Talpur era, at the height of 1,000 feet. The place has acquired its name from the word Gadh which in Sindhi means 'a stronghold or a fort'.

The district government took the initiative of developing the place keeping in mind its importance and lack of recreational facilities for the people of the town.

People have now made a habit of walking and exercising there while children take pleasure in swings or the games of their like.

This has also opened avenues for small vendors to earn their livelihood by stationing their push carts selling edibles such as chholay, pakoras, cold drinks and similar stuff.

Entertainment programmes and musical functions are held at regular basis for the amusement of people.

Land grabbers have eyed the area and are in the process of achieving their motives and making encroachments at Gadhi by raising different structures.

Members of Civil Society have urged the district administration to remove such illegal structures immediately and mark the area by building a boundary wall around Gadhi.

Visiting Gadhi and savouring mariro and mushroom cannot be forgotten.
