ISLAMABAD The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Sports has asked the management of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to appear in the next meeting of the committee, slated to be held on Friday.

The National Assembly Committee has sought a detailed presentation from PHF's senior management over their past performance and future targets, an official of the Committee told Dawn on Wednesday.

Answering a question, the official said that the NA body would also like to get an insight into the matters related to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the end of the national team's ongoing tour of England.

“The turbulent affairs of the PCB is on the NA committee meeting agenda but we have to postpone it for the time being as the team along with several of its senior officials are busy in England,” the official stated.

However, a sports analyst Aamir Bilal said there was a big question mark over implementation of the committee members' recommendations.

“We have been reading news items regarding the NA committee meetings but there have not been [any] positive outcome of such meetings as sports in Pakistan continue to linger at the lowest level,” the analyst, who is also an IOC qualified coach, added.

“The NA body should invite technical experts related to sports, to have a better and critical understanding of Olympic sports and even cricket,” he stressed.

He said that the committee had hardly discussed the subjects of sports marketing, sports economy, sports management and sports education which were linked with the development of sports.

“You have to talk about these specialised areas otherwise these [committee] meetings could not create any impact on the development side of national sports,” said the former national basketball player. “Development of sports is not a priority of the federal government because we have seen two changes in the hierarchy of the Federal Sports Ministry within two years,” he noted.

“Our outgoing federal secretary sports Anisul Husnain was replaced with Aziz Bilour, who is still in the process of getting acquaintance with the affairs of the country's sports.

The NA body, he said, should also look into sports administrative flaws like the recent transfer of the sports secretary.
