MMA, PML-N adjustment in Gujrat

GUJRAT, Sept 2: The PML(N) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) agreed to adjustments on all the four national and eight provincial assembly seats in the district.

The adjustments were announced by former MPA and PML(N) provincial vice-president Malik Hanif Awan at a press conference held in Gujrat Press Club here on Monday.

He said Maulana Liaquat Ali Naqshbandi of the MMA would be a joint candidate from NA-140, Hafiz Amjad Shaheen Warriach of the MMA from NA-105, Dr Syed Ihsanullah of the MMA from NA-106 and his nephew Dr Ajmal Awan would contest under the banner of PML(N) from NA-107.

About joint candidature on provincial assembly seats, he said Ayub Khan of the MMA would be a candidate from PP-108, Advocate Raja Arshad Mahmood of the MMA from PP-109, former MPA Syed Haroon Shah of the PML(N) from PP-110, Advocate Mehar Nadeem Abbas of the PML(N) from PP-111, Dr Syed Ihsanullah of the MMA from PP-112, Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal of the PML(N) from PP-113, Dr Ajmal Awan of the PML(N) would contest from PP-114 and Raja Abid Husain of the PML(N) from PP-115.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Hanif Awan expressed the hope the PML(N) and the MMA alliance would win most of the seats in the district as compared to the candidates sponsored by the Chaudhris of Gujrat. During the 2001 local body elections, the politicians of PML(QA) had been saying Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi would be the acting chief minister, he said, adding their calculations proved wrong.

Mr Awan said masses have decided to reject the politics of Chaudhris.

He claimed that the government was involved in pre-poll rigging and set up an election cell at the governor’s house where government functionaries had been making arrangements to support the king’s party.

MMA district president Saeed Shah Gujrati also spoke on the occasion.

JOINS PML(QA): Kharian tehsil Naib Nazim Dr Javed Riaz of the Jamaat-i-Islami has joined the PML(QA).

It may be noted that Kharian tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Nadeem Asghar Kaira belongs to the PPP. Sources told Dawn that Javed Riaz would seek instructions from Chaudhris to trouble Mr Kaira.
