SWABI, Aug 23: The residents of Gohati and Mansuri launched a drive here on Monday to collect donations to repair a dilapidated road in the area.   “We no longer have trust in the government and our elected representatives. We launched our struggle after exhausting all our efforts. We finally drew the conclusion that they will not come forward to reconstruct our road, which links various fertile regions of tehsil Swabi with tehsil Razaar and tehsil Chota Lahor,” the people said.

It is the first example of self-help efforts of the people, who said that they might not be able to reconstruct the road like the government but their struggle would make it at least usable for vehicles.

The said that the same road had also been used by the Afghan refugees, living in Baraki camp since 1979.

Led by Khalid Khan, he people of the area said that they launched door-to-door campaign for collecting donation. However, they said that they could not force anyone to donate for the purpose.

Mr Khan said that so far they collected about Rs20,000 and various philanthropists assured them of help.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and three injured over a domestic issue at Tat Koroona area of the district here on Monday.

Police said that brothers and their wives in a joint family exchanged hot words over some trivial issue that led to the quarrel. After a few minutes the brothers opened firing on each other.

Registering FIR in Kalu Khan police station, the injured Gul Faraz Khan accused his brother, Younas, of opening indiscriminate firing on other members of the family.

He said that as result of the firing the wife of his brother, Javed Khan, was killed on the spot. His mother, brother Salman, maternal uncle Haidar Ali and eight-year-old nephew Hussain Khan were injured in the firing, he added. His mother and brother were shifted to a Peshawar hospital in serious condition, where Haidar Ali succumbed to injuries.
