KOHAT, Sept 2: The district social welfare department and local philanthropists distributed the other day relief items and cash among hundreds of people affected by recent floods and monsoon rains.

The relief had been collected with the help of Mirman Centre and local philanthropists, including Baji Shaheen Gul and former district nazim Malik Asad. District coordination officer Shahidullah Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on behalf of the Mirman Centre, Ms Gul appealed to the well-off people to come forward and help the stranded families. She said that help to the flood victims would continue till their rehabilitation.

Sugar price: District coordination officer Shahidullah Khan said on Wednesday that 25 sale points had been opened in Kohat district to provide sugar at Rs61/kg to people.In a statement issued here, the DCO said that sugar would be available at Rs61/kg at these sale points in the city and its remote areas under the Ramazan package.

RPO assumes charge: Deputy inspector general of police, Muhammad Masood Afridi, formally took charge of his post as regional police officer of Kohat region on Wednesday.

The grade-20 officer was transferred from Bannu, replacing DIG Abdullah Khan, who had been posted as RPO Mardan.

TMO takes charge: Former tehsil municipal officer, Kohat, Noor Daraz Khattak took charge of his post on Wednesday after the Peshawar High Court suspended his suspension order issued by the chief secretary.

Mr Khattak was removed from the post on June 14, 2010 following corruption charges against him. He had filed a petition against his suspension in the PHC, which restored him as TMO till further orders. Mr Khattak had taken the plea that he was removed from his post on political basis.

Representatives of business community and prominent political figures had held a protest rally the other day against his reinstatement as TMO Kohat. They challenged Mr Khattak's appointment, saying that the official was ousted by the people of Abbottabad for being convicted by the national accountability bureau.

Former district nazim Malik Asad, bazaar union president Sher Khan Bangash and local elders said that they were shocked at Mr Khattak's appointment in Kohat.
