THATTA, Sept 3 After inundating Sujawal, Jati and Shah Bandar, the flood water is now posing a threat to Badin district.

At least 70 per cent of Jati town had been submerged and six breaches were made in Mero Khan Mori (canal) to ease pressure on Jati town. From the western side, water was now heading towards Chuhar Jamali town.

Three cuts had already been given in Ladiyoon-Jati road and two more cuts were inflicted and water was diverted towards the sea.

However, on its way, it was entering the Nangan Sim nullah after which it entered Dodho lake and was now heading towards Sir Creek.

Due to tremendous pressure of water, Pinyari canal had also been breached at four places inundating Bhudho Talpur town. It was posing a serious threat to Dewan City Sugar Mills, Golarchi and Khorwah. However, the administration of Dewan Mills had requisitioned heavy machinery and was building bunds to save the City.

Sindh Home Minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza was also busy in raising embankments at Ghongri Sim nullah to prevent gushing flood water from entering into his home district.

Meanwhile, relief and rescue operation is in full swing. Some complaints had been received from the affected people that they were not being supplied ration and drinking water and forced to live under the open sky.

People staged protest demonstration at Gharo after which DCO Thatta himself reached there with relief goods.

According to reports, 846,000 people have been displaced who are living in government schools, buildings, 105 relief camps and tent city where 174 tents have been erected.

More than 250,000 people are still living under the open sky while 300,000 affected have shifted to the homes of their relatives. Seven big health units, 85 fixed camps and 22 mobile health units are providing medical assistance to the affected people in addition to the NGOs.

PML-Q MNA, Syed Ayaz Shah Shirazi and former district nazim Thatta, Syed Shafqat Shah Shirazi, have once again accused the government and the elected representatives of the district of discriminating against the constituencies of the opposition in the distribution of relief goods.
