SANGHAR, Sept 8: The breach in the Samaro branch at RD No15, Khipro sub-division, which had developed on Sunday flooded several acres of crops. However, it was plugged by the peasants of the area before a major crisis occurred.

The irrigation authorities had closed the Jagir minor, the Doro Bazaar branch, the Santor minor, the Tagoosar minor, and many other small waterways under the rotation programme. As a result, the excess water flowed from various places into several canals of the Khipro irrigation sub-division. On Sunday, the banks of the Samore Shakh burst near watercourse No5, which is near the Dad Mohammad Brohi village.

The villagers ran towards the site and lowered the gates of the Samore from the Khipro canal. The breach was plugged by the farmers and the water supply restored.

Even though several acres had been flooded by that time, however, a huge disaster was averted.
