ISLAMABAD, Oct 11 A boy was killed and two people were injured in Haripur when the roof of their house caved in after an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Hazara division, Islamabad and parts of Rawalpindi after Sunday midnight.
The earthquake which lasted for about 20 seconds was felt in a wide area, ranging from Azad Kashmir, Attock, Haripur, Taxila, Muree, Abbotabad and Mansehra to Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The quake at 244am originated at a depth of only 10 kilometres, some 16 kilometres northwest from Islamabad, at the village of Jabb in a remote part of district Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
No report about any damage received at any police station, rescue service office or hospital in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and adjoining areas.
In Islamabad, the tremors shattered window-panes of court room No-1 of the Supreme Court building.
OurCorrespondent from Haripur adds The tremors damaged dozens of mud-houses in hilly areas.
Sources said that the house of one Rafaqat in the village of Jabb was destroyed and his minor son Mohammad Awaid, 5, was killed and Rafaqat and his mother Gulshan Bibi were injured. Local people rescued the injured from the debris.
The sources said the earthquake also damaged some houses in the villages of Najaf Pur, Sanjliala, Choee, Pind Gujran, Pakshahi, Rajdhani and Malath.
