LAHORE, Oct 11: Gulberg police released on Monday a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official after a brief detention who had allegedly abused a police officer.

Gulberg Station House Officer Abid Rasheed said Muhammad Raza and other policemen were manning the stadium's main gate for the Twenty20 cricket series.

Earlier, the PCB and police officers had decided in a meeting that only those vehicles bearing entrance stickers would be allowed into the stadium to avoid any untoward incident.

He said when Raza stopped Talha Ijaz, a PCB official, at a barrier and asked for his identity, he got furious and started abusive language against the police.

Model Town Division SP Rana Ayaz Saleem and PCB senior officers also reached the site when they were informed about the happening.

Gulberg police registered a case against Talha Ijaz on the complaint of SHO Zabzazar and arrested him in the stadium.

He was later released by the police when the PCB senior officers contacted the police high-ups to defuse tension during the T20 series.

SHO Abid Rasheed further said the Gulberg police also registered a report in the police diary against PCB's three other senior officials on charges of instigating the board's security personnel and other staff against the police.

They included PCB media manager Nadeem Sarwar, manager business development Anika Zahir and manager security Col M Waseem (retired). — Staff Reporter
