KARACHI The Guangzhou Asian Games bound cueists have assembled at the Pakistan Sport Complex Islamabad on Friday, for a 25-day camp in preparation for the quadrennial spectacle which is being held next month.

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) have named the five cueists on completion of third national ranking tournament on Oct 7. The cueists include Mohammad Sajjad, Imran Shehzad, Sohail Shehzad, Shahram Changezi and Khurram Agha.

Shoaib Alam Khan, manager-designate for the Asian Games, will be the camp commandant.

“The PBSA has worked out rigorous training schedule for the players aimed at to tune them for the big event with an eye on a medal,” President PBSA, Alamgir Shaikh, told Dawn from Islamabad where he has gone to finalise training arrangements in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Board.

He said efforts are afoot to hire the services of local coach Mohammad Bilal for the final leg of preparations after government refused to grant NOC to Indian coach Sanjay Sawanth.

The official said the players will undergo at least four hours solo training in the morning followed by match practice in the afternoon for the first fortnight.

“The players would be engaged in a double league during the last 10 days of camp,” he added.

He went on to say that special emphasis will be given to physical training.

The PBSA chief said he will brief the camp trainees when they assemble Friday at 11am. Director general of the PSB, Amir Hamza Gilani, will also visit the opening session of the camp.
