KARACHI, Oct 27: The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) on Wednesday announced an eight-member team for the Asian Games, to be held in Guangzhou, China from Nov 12 to 27.
Bronze medallists of the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, British born Haroon Khan and Mohammad Waseem have been retained for the Asian Games assignment.
PBF vice president Iqbal Hussain, who announced the team said that he expected better show from the duo in the Asian Games.
“Haroon and Waseem are both brilliant boxers, so certainly we have expectations from them. They have the capabilities to pull more worthwhile achievements. However, our other boxers are also in good form and two bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games have certainly boosted the confidence of the whole boxing team,” said Iqbal Hussain, who is also the camp commandant of the ongoing buildup camp for Asian Games.
He further said that they announced the team keeping the inputs of coach Francisco Hernandez in front of them. “He knows pros and cons of each and every player at the camp so certainly his inputs are the most important,” Iqbal said.
Haroon Khan will be featuring in 52kg weight category while Waseem will be competing in 49kg weight category.
