ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Aqeel Khan, Hameed-ul-Haq, Jaleel Khan, Samir Iftikhar and Asim Shafik cruised into next round of the Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis Championship here at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex on Thursday.

An ageing Hameed showed his experience against young Heera Ashiq, who resisted his opponent in the first set, by defeating him 7-6(3), 6-3 to qualify for the second round of the men’s singles category.

Brothers Aqeel Khan and Jaleel Khan also advanced. Aqeel outclassed Irfanullah 6-1, 6-0 while Jaleel thumped Hasan Riaz 6-1, 6-3.

In the boys’ U-18 fixtures Sadan-ul-Haq, Samir Iftikhar, Heera Ashiq and Zohair Raza recorded victories to reach quarter-finals.In the boys’ U-14 category Nofel Kaleem, Waqas Ahmed, Yousuf Khan and Mohammad Muzammil qualified for the second round.

Meanwhile, Ayesha Aziz, Areeb Abbasi and Nayab Humayun reached the second round of the girls’ U-18 contest. The U-18 girls, who qualified for the next round after getting bye, are Meheq Khokhar, Iman Qureshi, Rida Khalid and Ushna Sohail.

Pre-quarterfinals of men’s singles and boys’ U-18 will be played on Friday.Results:
