Pakistan’s most successful tennis player Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has been appointed a national ambassador of goodwill by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The appointment was announced by Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Islamabad on Monday, reports said.

The 30-year-old Qureshi is Pakistan’s most accomplished tennis players and the only one to have qualified for the finals of a grand slam tournament. He reached the men’s and mixed doubles finals of the 2010 US Open in New York.

Qureshi is currently touring Europe with his men’s doubles partner Rohan Bopanna of India, as the world number seven pair aim to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals to be held in London later this month.
