MARDAN, Nov 8: A man belonging to a minority community was shot dead and his son received multiple injuries when unidentified persons sprayed them with bullets near their house on Monday.

Sources said that Mahmood and his son Arif Mahmood were coming back from work when two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate firing on them in the jurisdiction of City police station.

Mahmood was killed on the spot while his son received injuries, they added.

The attackers managed to escape.

The victims, belonging to Ahmadi community, were shifted to district headquarters hospital where doctors referred Arif Mahmood to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.

Police cordoned off the area and started checking of suspected vehicles and persons.

The relatives of the victims told police that they had no enmity with anyone. It appeared to be a case of target killing, they said.

It is pertinent to mention that about two months ago a suicide bomber had blown himself up at the worship place of Ahmadi community on the same Canal Road. The victim had narrowly escaped the blast.

Police registered a case against unidentified persons and started investigation.
