Published November 11, 2001

ISLAMABAD, Nov 10: Ms Benazir Bhutto will be treated according to law whenever she returns to Pakistan, said a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.

When asked whether Ms Bhutto had contacted the Interior Ministry following the remarks of the Interior Minister at a press conference in Karachi Friday in which the Minister had said that Ms Bhutto would not be arrested if she returned to face trial, the spokesman said no such contact had been made. He, however, explained that the minister’s remarks were made in a general context in answer to a question and all actions taken by the government would be strictly in accordance with the law.—APP
