SUKKUR, Nov 20: The local authorities have failed to maintain cleanliness in different parts of the city because heaps of garbage, filth and solid waste of sacrificial animals still lying in streets and along roads speak volumes of their inaction.

This poor condition of sanitation and cleanliness pose a serious threat to environment and human lives.

In protest against the situation, several social organisations took to the streets and raised slogans against the municipal administration officials concerned.

Activists of the Peace Movement, Jinnah Gopang Association and Sukkur Shehri Ittehad held the demonstration.

Addressing them, Moulana Ubedullah Bhutto, chairman of the Sukkur Shehri Ittehad, said that the federal minister for labour, senator and MNA of Sukkur were busy in covering up misdeeds of their government, but every thing was known to the people of Sukkur.

He said that although huge funds were being provided by the federal and provincial governments, the local authorities failed to utilise them.

He said they had no option but to come out on the road to draw attention of the federal and provincial authorities to improve the sanitation and environment of Sukkur.

It is learnt that the TMA authorities had granted permission to dealers of sacrificial animals to sale their animals at the railway Godown Bunder Road, Jinnah Chowk and Race Course road on the occasion of Eidul Azha by charging Rs800 per animal.

The TMA also imposed conditions on them that at the end of Eid, they would clean the areas and lift all the garbage.

However, this condition was never implemented and in the absence of needful measures, there is the threat of an outbreak of epidemics.
